I am a 72-year-old member of KM Run Club.
I started running at age 62 doing charity 10Ks and built up to half marathons and then a full marathon on a dare.
Until late 2018, I read articles from experts and did a marathon per year following my own training regime without coaching. I qualified in my age category and ran Boston twice. In 2015, I ran a personal best in Vancouver but had been experiencing a slowing down in the years since then.
In late 2019, I heard about a run club in Vancouver from a friend of my daughter and decided to go and give it a try. KM Run Club got me hooked right away.
I had never done speedwork and several other types of training were new to me...
...but there I was, running with other much younger members and getting stronger and faster with them.
In 2020, during a tough year for everyone, I ran a number of virtual races with the club and pulled off personal bests in 10K, half marathon and lastly a full virtual New York marathon (in 3 hours and 42 minutes), beating my best-ever from years ago by more than 3 minutes and a full 30 minutes faster than my previous year’s run. Coach Katherine Moore made all the difference for me and I will be forever grateful for her insightful programs and, more importantly, her absolute belief in my ability to grow in confidence and performance. Kat helped me both as a runner and as a person.
The training is something special, but the KM Run Club community that immediately welcomed me as an integral member is truly exceptional.
The support that members provide me and one another, every running day is remarkable. KM Run Club is a genuinely warm and fun place that challenges all to grow their abilities. Thanks to Katherine for creating and fostering a running community that is like no other. It is such an important part of my life.
